What's new?

Story-scape Sessions

Not so new any more now of course, being from spring summer 2011. But we leave it here as several links have been created to this page and we don't want to break them.

Welcome to our once new pilot venture.

You can request sessions for your group or party

and negotiate fees with Ramona

Story-scape Sessions are held within the Penicuik library on alternate Friday afternoon's - check blog for future dates.

Sharing skills: crafting in the community
Story-scape Sessions naturally emerged from the community-based project Making Space Penicuik; this is where people of all ages and abilities come together to share space, dialogue and skills, whilst crafting felted figures, creatures and landscapes, through the use of different crafting processes.

There is a core group of around ten creators and crafters, with many local people and visitors dropping in when they can too. And we are Making Space for more - so DO come along!

Landscape set for
Little Red Riding Hood
After a story-scape landscape was created and a vast array of felted creatures and figures were crafted, it seemed only natural for storyteller's Ramona Kirkness and Anneruth Strauss, also co-founder of Making Space Penicuik, to bring the creations alive!

And so Story-scape Sessions was formed!

Launch

Little Red Riding Hood (Annaruth) and the Magic Porridge Pot (Ramona) were the main stories told at the launch. The children discovered the joy of interactive storytelling and re-enacted the tale of Little Red Riding Hood with great enthusiasm.

Getting hands-on: re-telling the story
Meanwhile, the younger children each selected an item from the marvellous creature basket (in keeping with Little Red Riding Hood's basket). Each were encouraged to share their ideas and inter-relate their piece and weave it into the storyline.

The second Story-scape Session, on Friday 20th May, featured Puff the Magic Dragon (Ramona) and the Sunshine story (Ramona), with two coordinating sing-along-songs (guitar).

The third Story-scape Session, on June 3rd, featured The Owl and the Pussycat (Ramona) and an adapted version of Dzvinka Hayda's Little Angel's Journey (Annaruth), with two coordinating sing-along-songs (guitar and recorders -guest recorder player, teenager Ashley).

Back by popular demand, the fourth Story-scape Session, on June 17th, featured Puff the Magic Dragon (Ramona) and Little Red Riding Hood (Annaruth). With guitar.

July 1st was rearranged.

The fifth Story-scape Session, on July 15th, was Katy Morag and the Tiresome Ted (Jeni), The Enormous Bunch of Grapes - an adapted version of the story with a turnip (Tina) and a teaser from Annaruth telling a snippet from Magnus Finn by Janis Mackay. With a coordinating song (recorder and guitar).

The final Story-scape Session, will be in Friday 29th July. Story choices will be announced shortly. Join us for more interactive fun time and songs!

Call the Penicuik library on 01968 664 050 to ensure your space for the next session - which is Friday 29th July at 2p.m. (finishes approx. 3 p.m.)
